The Coventry Building Society is an active member of the Building Societies Association and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

The Coventry Building Society was first founded in 1884 by a number of local citizens and was first known as The Coventry Permanent Economic Building Society. One of its founders – Mr Thomas Mason Daffern went on to become the society’s first secretary.

A number of mergers in the 1970s and 1980s saw the Coventry grow from strength to strength. It was in 1983 that it first became known as the Coventry Building Society following a merger with the Coventry Provident.

The Coventry Building Society is keen to remind people that it is not owned by any external shareholders but by its members – the society’s borrowers and savers. There are no dividend payouts so all profits can be ploughed back in order to keep all their products ultra competitive.

The Coventry takes its responsibility within the local community very seriously. All decisions that are made are always done so with the interests of their members in mind and the local community as a whole.
