Lloyds TSB is both a banking and insurance group registered in the United Kingdom. The company was formed in the mid nineties following the merger of the Lloyds Bank and the TSB (Trustee Savings Bank) The Group is headquartered in London and is currently the fifth largest banking group in the UK.
Previous to the two companies merging in 1995, the two banks had very different beginnings in contrast. Lloyds bank was formed in 1765 in Birmingham and was one of the oldest banks in England. Through growth, expansion and a series of mergers, Lloyds bank at its pinnacle, became one of the largest banks in the Country.
The Trustee Savings Bank had very different beginnings however and was created much more recently in 1985. This came about by an Act of Parliament that merged the last of the remaining savings bank in Great Britain under TSB Bank plc.
Today, LloydsTSB have a wealth of subsidiary companies which include the Cheltenham & Gloucester, Scottish Widows and the finance provider, Blackhorse. At the time of writing the LloydsTSB Group is the fifth largest banking group in the UK.
